Swimming Hole

$1,125.00

24 × 36”
Oil on Cradled Wood

On the first day of my residency, I woke to cold air and visible breaths as I stepped outside. Undeterred by the chill, I set up my outdoor easel, ready to paint. What followed was a frantic dance of ten red, freezing fingers dropping brushes every few seconds, racing against the fading light of the sunset over the swimming hole on the property. After the residency ended, and I returned to my home studio, I decided to create a larger painting inspired by that plein air piece — the result is the work you see here.

This work is included in my collection A Room of My Own. The body of work was created in response to spending three weeks at Chateau d’Orquevaux in rural France with 23 other artists in March of 2024. A Room of My Own is a tribute to the stories, bodies, and voices that moved me during that time of retreat—an exploration of how art can hold space for truth, tenderness, and radical visibility.
